The Helping Islands Adapt workshop was held in Auckland, New Zealand between the 11th and 16th of April 2010 to support regional action against invasive species on islands, in order to preserve biodiversity and adapt to climate change. It arose from decisions under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) relating to invasive alien species and island biodiversity.
Species have been identified as having a high, medium or low vulnerability to the threat of climate change and have been categorised on the basis of a standardised assessment process. This leaflet summarises the emerging results from an assessment of CMS Appendix I species, in order to provide guidance to policy makers at the earliest opportunity
The workshop aimed to equip island countries, and countries with islands, with the tools and information needed for urgent responses to the threats associated with alien invasive species
This dataset holds all CIM Plans for each district of Samoa. The CIM Plans are envisaged as blueprints for climate change interventions across all development sectors reflecting the programmatic approach to climate resilience adaptation taken by the Government of Samoa.
The proposed interventions outlined in the CIM Plans are also linked to the Strategy for the Development of Samoa 2016/17 – 2019/20 and the relevant ministry sector plans.

Four islands of the Aleipata group: Fanuatapu islet; Namua island, Nu’ulua, and Nu’utele.The aim of the surveys was to survey the status of IAS on these four islands with a special focus on rats, YCA, pigs and weeds, and with a focus on the two larger islands, Nu’utele and Nu’ulua.

Dataset contains training material on using open source Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to improve protected area planning and management from workshops that were conducted on February 19-21 and October 6-7, 2020. Specifically, the dataset contains lectures on GIS fundamentals, QGIS 3.x, and global positioning system (GPS), as well as country-specific datasets and a workbook containing exercises for viewing data, editing/creating datasets, and creating map products in QGIS.
This publication ‘Strategic Environmental Assessment – Guidelines for Pacific Island Countries and
Territories’ has been prepared to provide guidance on the application of SEA as a tool to support
environmental planning, policy and informed decision making. It provides background on the use and
benefits of SEA as well as providing tips and guiding steps on the process, including case studies, toolkits
and checklists for conducting an SEA in the Appendices.
This first state of the environment report for the Pacific region uses regional environment indicators to assess the status, trends, and data quality and availability for the endorsed Pacific environmental priorities. This fourth (4th) national report to the CBD documents the achievements, issues, lessons and future needs for Samoa in biological diversity conservation, consistent with the CBD reporting guidelines and building on previous national reports.
Samoa’s fifth national report to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) examines trends and changes in the country’s biodiversity and the status of NBSAP implementation since the fourth national report was submitted in 2008.
The four long term outcomes are:
a) Long Term Outcome 1: Sustainable management and development of natural resources and environment improved;
b) Long Term Outcome 2: A more sustainable and resilient built environment;
c) Long Term Outcome 3: Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management mainstreamed across all sectors; and,
d) Long Term Outcome 4: Effective enabling environment.
